Garda Detective Deirdre Finn dies in a fire on Carrick-on-Shannon river cruiser

Garda Detective Deirdre Finn lost her life after her boat caught fire in Carrick On Shannon

In Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, a fire on a boat on the Shannon caused the death of an off-duty Garda.

She was an active member of the Dublin-based An Garda Síochána and was well-known among the officers.

The cruiser was caught in a fatal fire. Emergency services rushed to the scene.

The location is blocked off for Garda inspection.

As per the Garda spokesperson, "Garda assisted emergency services following reports of a fire on a boat in Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim."

"One woman's death has been confirmed. The scene is being preserved right now. The inquiries continue."

Garda investigation is ongoing.
