Woman (60s) arrested – €480,000 of cannabis seized at Shannon Airport

After a significant quantity of cannabis was seized at Shannon Airport, a woman in her 60s was taken into custody.

On Sunday, airport luggage revealed over 23kg of herbal cannabis and 3.3kg of cannabis resin, estimated to be worth €480,000.

The Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act of 1996's section 2 led to the arrest and detention of the 60 year old woman.

Investigations remain ongoing, according to Gardaí.

Gardai said in a statement: ‘Gardai arrested a woman in her 60’s following a seizure by Revenue of suspected cannabis, estimated at €480,000, at Shannon Airport yesterday, Sunday April, 7.

‘Revenue officers seized 23 kgs of herbal cannabis and 3.3 kgs of cannabis resin, which was discovered within luggage.

‘The woman arrested by Gardaí was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at a Garda Station in the Clare area. Investigations are ongoing.’
